Is a CS degree still necessary for breaking into big tech?

I'm a bootcamp grad who's been working as a developer for 2 years. I love the work but I've been told by multiple people that I need a CS degree to get into companies like Google or Meta.
Is this still true? I know some companies have formally dropped degree requirements, but does that actually translate to getting past resume screening?
My current plan is to get a part-time online CS degree while working, but that would take 3-4 years and cost around 30k. If it's not necessary, I'd rather invest that time and money elsewhere.
Would love to hear from people who got into FAANG without a traditional CS degree. What was your experience like with the hiring process?
