System Design for Interviews: Where to Start?

System design can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re staring down the barrel of an interview. I’ve been studying for a couple of months, and honestly, it’s a mixed bag. There are so many concepts to cover—databases, load balancing, caching, microservices. Sometimes I wonder if any of it will stick in my brain. Anyone else feel like they’re drowning in diagrams?
What’s helped me is breaking it down into smaller chunks. I’ve been using some random online resources and YouTube channels, but I still have gaps. I try sketching out real-world systems, like designing a URL shortener or a chat application, but I feel like I need some structure. If you've got any favorite resources or tips on how you tackled system design prep, I’d love to hear them!
