Preparing for the Behavioral Round in Software Engineering Interviews

Behavioral interviews are tough. They often feel more like a personality test than a skills check. Coming from finance, I've had to really twist my mindset to get ready for these. The questions can seem vague and everyone's approach is different, making it hard to know what to focus on.
I found the STAR method to be a bit of a lifesaver. Structuring answers this way helped me reach the point without rambling. But I still catch myself feeling a bit anxious about authenticity. Sometimes it sounds too rehearsed. I'm curious how others manage, especially if you have a non-traditional background like mine. Do you lean toward storytelling, or do you have a more straightforward approach? Any tips for keeping it natural while still hitting key points would be appreciated.
