Tell me about a time you had to make a decision with incomplete data

I shared a scenario from my previous role where I had to decide whether to roll out an update for a monitoring tool without having all the user feedback. We had some data showing performance issues but not enough to fully understand the user experience.
I gathered what I could find, consulted with the team, and ultimately made the call to proceed with a phased rollout to minimize risk. The interviewer seemed engaged and asked about the specific metrics I considered, which made me feel like the story resonated.
However, I could tell I might have underplayed how the incomplete data led to some confusion during the rollout, resulting in mixed reactions from the team. They appreciated my willingness to take risks but wanted more clarity on my decision-making process.
I realized I could’ve detailed more on how I kept the team informed and adjusted based on live feedback, but overall it went decently.
