I began by clarifying the requirements of the job scheduler, discussing features like task prioritization and job dependencies. The interviewer seemed engaged as I sketched the architecture on the whiteboard.
I proposed using a distributed system with a message queue for handling jobs, and mentioned tools like Apache Kafka for scalability. The interviewer challenged my approach on handling failure scenarios, prompting me to elaborate on retries and dead-letter queues, which I confidently addressed, but I later realized I could have offered more details on monitoring and alerting.
Overall, I felt that my ability to think on my feet impressed the interviewer, even though I stumbled slightly on some follow-up questions about specific technologies.
