Getting the offer from Capital One as a Junior Site Reliability Engineer was a rollercoaster ride! I graduated just a few months before I started preparing, so my background wasn't packed with experience. I had some internships and coursework under my belt but nothing like this. I had a fire in my belly and was ready to tackle the challenge.

Preparation was a critical part of my journey. For about two months, I dove deep into learning the fundamentals of cloud services, particularly AWS. I signed up for online courses and went through tutorials on Kubernetes and Docker because understanding containerization felt vital. I joined a study group which kept me accountable and helped with mutual learning—it turned out to be one of the best decisions! I also practiced coding problems on LeetCode and brushed up on algorithms, as I knew that technical interviews could get tricky.

The interview process was intense, consisting of three rounds. The first round was a phone interview focusing on behavioral questions. I was a bundle of nerves preparing to discuss my previous projects and experiences. The next round was a technical interview where I faced coding questions and system design scenarios. That’s where I stumbled! I miscalculated the time complexity of an algorithm, and when the interviewer pointed it out, I felt a surge of panic. It was one of those moments where I thought I had blown my chances.

Fortunately, I was able to regain my composure and communicate my thought process explicitly. I learned the importance of thinking out loud during interviews. Expressing my thoughts helped the interviewer understand where I went wrong and allowed me to rectify my solution. The final round was more of a cultural fit, which was a relief. I connected well with the team values and the focus on collaboration—this made a huge difference in my overall confidence.

When I received the offer, I was over the moon! All those late nights and endless hours studying finally paid off. It was rewarding to see that the hard work really made a difference. I can't believe I will be joining such a dynamic team at Capital One!

Each step of the way was a learning experience. From the technicals to navigating stressful situations, it was a journey filled with growth. I genuinely loved the challenge, and I’m so eager to start this new chapter in my career.
