A few months ago, I stood at a crossroads, having spent years in finance and feeling unfulfilled. The world of tech always fascinated me, especially machine learning. I took the plunge and devoted around six months to transition into this new career. It wasn’t easy, but I was determined to break into the field.

Preparation was intense. I spent hours coding on LeetCode, diving deep into algorithms and statistics. The tough part came when I had to tackle projects on GitHub while also learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch. I still remember the day I accidentally deleted an entire repository right before a self-assessment session. It left me panicking until I learned about version control properly—definitely a lesson learned!

Finally, the interview rounds came. The process felt daunting: multiple technical interviews and a culture fit discussion. Each interview had its own challenges, but there was one moment during a coding challenge when I froze up. I misunderstood the problem statement and ended up writing inefficient code. Thankfully, the interviewers were understanding, and I was able to clarify my thoughts. After what felt like an eternity, I got the offer from Robinhood. It felt surreal, but all my hard work paid off.

Getting this role has been a game changer, and I wholeheartedly embrace the challenges ahead. Always be willing to learn and adapt. Embrace the struggle—it’s part of the journey.

Tips

Build small projects using real datasets to strengthen your ML skills., Join online forums or communities to connect with others transitioning to tech., Practice coding interviews on platforms like LeetCode, focusing on explanations., Learn version control early to avoid stressful situations with lost work., Seek feedback on your projects from experienced developers to improve faster.
